Item Description

This giclee of Howard Sivertson's "Boat Day" shows the steamer "America" in the Grand Marais harbor in the early 1900's.

The America was "the first ship fast enough to make three scheduled round trips a week from Duluth to Port Arthur and Isle Royale."  She hauled passengers, mail and freight along the North Shore and to Isle Royale. (The area was roadless until the early 1920's.)

This image is found in the book "Tales of the Old North Shore," by Howard Sivertson. Howard Sivertson is a life-long Isle Royale and North Shore resident as well as regional historian and artist.

This is a giclee (archival print - done on canvas with archival pigmented inks), stretched and ready to hang, measuring c. 20" X 30".

Item Special Note
