Item Description

Root Institute provides an ideal location for an introduction to Bodhgaya and Buddhist study. A tremendous setting in which to encounter the dharma. The successful bidder for this item will enjoy one of the 2015 Experience Buddhism at the Root (EBATR) programs.

Allow Buddhism to step off the page and into your heart as you journey through the land where the Buddha became enlightened. Teachings and meditations will be led in Root Institute's peaceful gompa (meditation hall) as well as at the holy sites of the Mahabodhi Temple, Vulture’s Peak, Mahakala Cave, Sujata Temple and the ancient Nalanda University.

The programme is designed to give you an opportunity for daily contemplation and reflection, an important hiatus when experiencing new and different thoughts and philosophies. EBATR also includes time for yoga or other gentle exercise and beneficial periods of silence.

There are very few places as blessed and inspiring as Bodhgaya, the “centre of the universe” for Buddhists. It is in Bodhgaya that Shakyamuni Buddha and all of the other 999 Buddhas of this Fortunate Eon did and will continue to attain enlightenment. Over thousands of years, Bodhgaya has been further blessed by countless hours of meditation, prayers and prostrations by millions of pilgrims from all around the world. Due to the power of these blessings, it is said that all virtue is multiplied by eight in Bodhgaya—one prayer, one prostration, one hour of meditation is as powerful as eight prayers, eight prostrations or eight hours of meditation anywhere else in the world.

The successful bidder will receive tuition, ten days dormitory accommodation, and three meals a day.

Root Institute, part of the Foundation for the Preservation the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) aims to provide a realistic contribution to the preservation of the ancient culture and wisdom of India as well as a conducive environment for people of any nationality or religion to study and meditate on the Mahayana Buddhist teachings. It offers comfortable, clean and affordable accommodation, well-stocked library, delicious vegetarian food, regular Buddhist meditation courses and workshops, and fully serviced private retreat facilities.
