Item Description
These beautiful salt and pepper shakers are hand crafted by a Rebuidling Together Oakland volunteer, Ros Harper. "I like to make seasoning containers from contrasting woods that are cut and jointed so they are true and square. Then they are laminated (glued) together before turning and inserting the plastic refillable containers with twist off stainless lids. These shakers are made from Maple, Walnut, and Purple Heart and have been finished with four coats of wipe on polyurethane, which dries to a satin sheen."
Ros Harper, a retired Kaiser nurse who lives in Alameda, took up woodturning because she "thought it would be a great challenge" -- and it was. Now 12 years later, Ros has so many woodworking tools in her garage that her car is consigned to street parking. A lathe, band saw, drill press, sanders, grinders and a myriad of hand tools fill the floor, walls and cabinets. Wood carving and pyrography (wood burning) gear and display cases share the rest of her home with her dogs Stuart and Bear. So decorate your home with these unique items hand-crafted in her garage!
