Item Description
"One thing I discovered in Cooperstown was that folklorists not only like to find old songs and funky folk art, they also like to eat and cook. Some of my early research back in my native North Country of New York was about foodways from all kinds of community groups. TAUNY - the regional folk arts organization I founded in 1986 - organized a local public radio series, a gallery exhibit and, eventually, this cookbook, compiled and edited by a fellow folklorist and published in 2000. Not just a collection of recipes, the 25 chapters explore the history and food customs of various regional and ethnic groups who have settled in the region. This cookbook was chosen as the first place national winner of the prestigious Tabasco Community Cookbook Prize in 2001, beating out cookbooks from charitable organizations as second and third place winners from Santa Fe and New Orleans respectively. Does that make the North Country the foodies' newest destination?"
By Lynn Case Ekfelt, The Wimmer Company, 2000. 362 pages, 28 photos, index.
