Item Description
Chris Mandell is offering three reading tutoring sessions. The first session would consist of an assessment of your child’s phonemic awareness and phonics skills. The subsequent two sessions would consist of lessons based on the results of the assessment. These lessons would ONLY be suitable for children age 5 to 7 who read at OR BELOW a second grade level, and who do not have behavior problems that would interfere with tutoring. In the case of 5-year-olds, I would substitute an extra reading lesson for the assessment.
Chris is a certified reading specialist with an M.Ed. in Reading Education, and a B.A. in English, summa cum laude. She has been trained in 3 phonics methods: Phono-Graphix, Lindamood, and Orton Gillingham. I work with beginning readers, remedial readers, and special needs students (without severe behavior problems). She has had great success with teaching kids to read, and can provide excellent references. Formerly, Chris worked as a tutor with “The Learning Lab @ Lesley,” where parents are currently charged $95.00 per lesson. Chris is a published poet, and has written a series of children’s stories that are designed to teach children how to read; she hopes to get these stories published soon. Chris incorporate lots of games, toys, and students’ own stories into her lessons for a child-friendly approach.
Item Special Note
Winner of the auction must contact Chris within two weeks after winning the auction. All lessons must occur within 5 weeks after the date of the auction. One parent may observe all three lessons. No other adults or children may be present.
Chris is offering these lessons only for parents to purchase for their children, NOT for teachers to purchase for their students. All lessons take place at my home office in West Roxbury. Chris has cats, so this offer wouldn’t be suitable for those who are allergic.
