Item Description
Dharma Ocean’s online "Sutrayana Study and Practice Intensive" offers qualified practitioners an opportunity to deepen their understanding and experience of the lineage embodied by Reggie Ray and his teacher, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. The course will take place in the Spring of 2015 on dates to be announced.
In order to encourage a detailed exploration of the Sutrayana teachings and practices, we are now offering this course in two parts, Part One: Hinayana (offered in the Spring) and Part Two: Mahayana (offered in the Fall). Each part consists of a 10-week course of study and practice that is engaged in at home, deep within our daily lives. Readings, study questions, recorded talks, and group teaching calls with Dharma Ocean senior teacher, Neil McKinlay, examine the foundational perspectives of this lineage. Guided meditations, ongoing contemplations, discussion groups, and a continuing relationship with a personal meditation instructor help bring these perspectives to life.
Though the precise amount will vary, this program requires a minimum commitment of approximately 6-8 hours each week. Each part of the Intensive concludes with an at-home exam designed to give participants one more opportunity to refine their understanding of the presented material.
In order to participate in the Hinayana portion of the Study and Practice Intensive, participants must have an established meditation practice and a strong heart connection to this lineage. Participation in the Mahayana portion (offered in the Fall) requires successful completion of the Hinayana portion of this course or any previous Sutrayana event offered by Dharma Ocean. In all cases, successful completion is determined when appropriate understanding is displayed in the program’s at-home exam.
Since completion of the entire Sutrayana Intensive is a prerequisite for Dharma Ocean’s Vajra Assembly, anyone interested in attending Vajra Assembly should plan ahead to complete the Mahayana portion in the Fall of the year prior to Vajra Assembly.
The mission of the Dharma Ocean Foundation is to embody, unfold, and widely offer the unique path to enlightenment taught by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Dharma Ocean is a non-profit (501-c3) organization. Visit dharmaocean.org for more information.
