The Story Behind the Shot: Rose was hired along with the photographer Wolfgang Volz to document Christo and Jeanne Claude's temporary public artwork title: "The Umbrellas":
"The Umbrellas, a temporary work of art realized in two countries at the same time, reflected the similarities and differences in the ways of life and the use of the land in two inland valleys in Japan and the USA."
Rose covered the USA side of the project while they were installed in Tejon Pass CA in 1991.
