Item Description

One bottle, each, of Montevina 2012 Chardonnay and Terra d'Oro Donna Avida 2012 Red Blend

Here's what the winery says about the Chardonnay:

Tasting Notes

Montevina Chardonnay is a rich, golden-hued wine with complex varietal aromas with citrus and pineapple flavors, with a top note of sweet oak. Crisp flavors of tropical fruit and ripe pear are layered with hints of vanilla bean and toasted almonds for added dimension.

Vineyard Notes

The grapes for our Chardonnay were sourced from 40% Monterey and 60% Lodi-Delta fruit. The growing season allowed the Chardonnay grapes to enjoy plenty of “hang time” on the vine, which developed the grapes’ full, rich flavors and complexities.

Winemaker Notes

The Chardonnay underwent partial malolactic fermentation to enhance the mouthfeel and add creamy tones to the wine while retaining crisp and balanced varietal flavors. Our winemaker, Chris Leamy, used primarily stainless steel fermentation, with just under 10% fermentation on French Oak for added nuance and complexity

The bottle in this item is the 2012 Donna Avida Red Blend. Here is what the winery had to say about the 2011 product.

Tasting Notes

Bold and alluring, the Terra d’Oro 2011 Donna Avida Red Blend has beautiful floral aromas anddelicate notes of cherry blossom. A lush core of raspberry, juicy red currant and cherry fosters a complex palate of deep flavors. There is a refreshing brightness to the fruit from the beginning all the way through to the end and the structured tannins support a long, velvety finish.

Vineyard Information

The Terra d’Oro 2011 Donna Avida Red Blend hails from Amador County, the heart of the Sierra Foothills. “Donna Avida” translates to “Gold Digger” in Italian, a nod to our rich heritage in California’s historic Gold Country. Winemaker Chris Leamy sought out the best lots that would provide a layered and complex expression of this wine-growing region. The result is an elegant blend of Zinfandel, Barbera, Syrah and Sangiovese and a touch of Viognier.

Item Special Note

The Taste of Inspiration at Terra d'Oro and Montevina Wineries.

Zinfandel is our passion, and lucky for us we are blessed with perfect growing conditions for this world-class varietal. Whether enjoying our Amador Zinfandel, or one of our three unique single vineyard offerings, you’ll experience the region’s trademark "Shenandoah spice" that makes our Zins stand above the rest.

In addition to producing top-notch Zinfandel, we find it hard to ignore our Italian heritage, mainly because Italian varietals make such food friendly wines. There’s something about our climate, elevation, and rich rocky soil that allows traditional Italian varietals to not simply thrive here—but actually achieve true greatness. Many early Italian settlers sensed this, and widely planted vineyards with the grapes that they knew best.

We are extremely fortunate that two of Italy’s most revered red wines—Sangiovese (Tuscany) and Barbera (Piedmonte)—thrive in the rocky, iron-rich soils of Amador County, and develop into lush, well-balanced wines suitable for aging or immediate consumption. Our Amador County Rosé, made from Nebbiolo (Piedmonte), displays a wonderful off-dry style preferred by Europeans for centuries. For our white offerings, we carefully selected vineyards throughout California for our Moscato (Piedmonte) and chose grapes grown in Santa Barbara for our Pinot Grigio (Alto Adige) resulting in crisp, vibrant, easy-drinking wines.

Try some—and let Terra d’Oro inspire your palate!
