Item Description

2012 White Rex, Deerfield Ranch, Sonoma County:
Robert Rex, the master of the Art of Blending, and the creator of the wildly popular Red Rex, brings you a sublime white wine blend that breaks all the rules.

Like the Red Rex it has all the best elements of each of its components and what's more, its greater than the sum of its parts. Peach from the Pinot Grigio, crisp apple from the Sauvignon Blanc, that certain Chard-iness everyone secretly loves, and a touch of off-dry from the Riesling. Serve well chilled, preferably wearing a swim suit.

In a blend by Robert Rex, there¿s a reason for everything. Here is what he says each varietal in White Rex brings to the table:

  • Pinot Grigio
    • White Peaches
    • Fresh fruit sweetness
    • Top palate flavors
  • Sauvignon Blanc
    • Brightness
    • Minerality
    • Side palate flavors
    • Tropical fruit
  • Chardonnay
    • Opens mid-palate flavors
    • Hint of oak
    • Depth, length and finish
  • Riesling
    • Acidity
    • Creates refreshing finish
    • Herbal qualities on the front of palate

2011 Tempranillo, Eric Ross Winery, Bokisch Vineyards, Lodi:
Tasting Notes: Utilizing "Lodi Sustainable" farming pratices this rich exotic Tempranillo flows from the glass with layers of Spanish traditions of food and winemaking. Blackberry, espresso & dark chocolate, followed by hints of dry cured black moroccan olives. Barrel aged in a combination of American and French Oak providing hints of oak integrated to respect the varietal character.

2010 Cuvée Ellen Syrah, Loxton Cellars, Sonoma County:
Blending the Ellen Cuvee makes me think about what I want Syrah to show. Firstly it should be nice! Then I want it to show some of the roasted and smoky notes of Syrah, it must be soft (after all, it is named for my Grandmother!) and I want it to have some fruit grown here in Glen Ellen. This version is based on Syrah from the Parmelee Hill vineyard in Sonoma (64%) which is soft and ripe, and then I¿ve added fruit from the Archer vineyard (24%) as it had lots of cherry with good acid and tannin. Rossi Ranch contributed color and tannin (and is the Glen Ellen component at %4%, kick ranch is 6% and the remainder Griffin¿s Lair. The final wine is particularly round and seamless, quite ripe in style and is ready to drink now and for the next 3-4 years. 263 cases were bottled using screwcaps.

2012 Pinot Grigio, Muscardini Cellars, Sole Del Mattino, Sonoma Valley:
Fragrant aromas of fresh spring flowers, ripe melon, & tropical fruits. Dazzles the palate with rich & exotic flavors of fresh cut lemongrass, white peach, Crenshaw melon, banana chips, shaved coconut & Asian pear. Nice creamy texture. A fantastic complement to gourmet salads, grilled fish, poultry, pasta with creamy white sauces, & Asian cuisine.

2013 Pinot Noir, The Cooper's Art, Santa Lucia Highlands, Monterey:
This wine has very deep color for a Pinot Noir. It has a beautiful aroma, is brimming with red and black fruits, and offers lots of flavor and complexity tempered by good acidity and a nice tannin structure. The mouthfeel is round and full and the finish goes on and on. While drinkable on its own, this wine will pair beautifully with a range of food from Italian to salmon or steaks.

Given the intensity and complexity of this wine, it has a long life in front of it. I have been making Pinot Noir's from Monterey and the Santa Lucia Highlands since 1997 and my guess is this wine will develop and drink well for 10 to 15 years. This is very much a big boy wine and will reward cellaring for a number of years.

2012 Chardonnay, Mayo Family Winery, Laurel Hill Vineyard, Sonoma Valley:
From our own Laurel Hill vineyard tucked away in the Sonoma Valley, we produced this crisp, refreshing 100% Chardonnay produced in Stainless steel tanks with not a moment touching oak. For those of you that like your Chardonnay pure, vibrant, crisp and clean, this is your wine. This Chardonnay delivers bright flavors of green apple, sweet lemon, hints of peach. This straightforward Chard is the perfect compliment to green salads, summer pasta salads, grilled chicken and a slow, warm afternoon.
