Item Description
Old army steamer trunk with a metal tag label from W W Winship on the top of the lid. Legendary Boston trunk maker W.W. Winship EST. 1776-1973. Winship is credited with the innovation of the domed trunk, a storage staple in Boston attics for generations. Winships fulfilling Bostonians' taste for trunks, customers such as Ben Franklin, Buffalo Bill and P.T. Barnum. The Winship family continued the tradition of selling fine luggage until 1973, until the firm was acquired by The London Harness Company which is still in business today. Trunk is 30"W x 17"D x 13"H
Item Special Note
The trunk could use a little tlc. One corner on the top of the lid is missing the metal corner piece. The inside shows age but the paper is still intact. The leather side handles are still intact but one handle shows much more wear than the other. The exterior has old travel labels from various locations including Paris. This trunk was very well traveled.
