Item Description

6 Feet Underwood is a conversation starter about the intersection of analog and digital worlds, culminating in a question mark about cultural relevance and whimsy. Or it's just a typewriter. The artist likes old things, and the kraft paper is beautiful.

Patrick Cant, an artist, monkey boy, copy editor, budding delinquent: "I got into making art late, but I've been a fan since I was a kid. And getting into street art was about realizing that, while I could never own a Renoir or a Degas, I could own a Banksy. That led me to screen printing and wheat pasting and, eventually, some real painting.

Working in newspapers, I am very fond of old typewriters. I miss the clackity sound of newsrooms of old, and these were a part of that. Analog battles digital as we try to find our way into the future. And I think they are a powerful image of where we came from and what we should not forget. Putting more thought into writing is also putting more thought into thinking, and possible more importantly, thinking before writing or speaking.

In addition, there's something about screen printing, getting ink under your nails and physically pushing ink onto paper, as opposed to pushing a button and waiting, that I quite appreciate. It feels like really making something, not just 'outputting' it."
