Item Description
On a sunny afternoon in June of 1974, photographer Jim Moore and high wire walker Philippe Petit snuck up to the top of the North Tower of the then under construction World Trade Center (one of 10 visits they would make). Taking photographs for research for the proposed WTC high wire walk which would be chronicled in the Oscar Winning film MAN ON WIRE many years later. Philippe and Jim moved around the top of the towers freely and Jim took pictures took of Philippe in different locations close the edge of the building.
It was a covert visit by Jim and Philippe to the top of one of the two buildings that would eventually be the site of 'the artistic crime of the century'. In August of 1974 Philippe would walk across the 1 inch solid steel stranded cable that was rigged during the night by his 3 accomplices. His walk would involve 7 crossings, a kneel, bow and u-turn on the high wire that was 1350 ft above the ground.
