Artist Statement

"I was blessed with the best mother anyone could ask for. Unfortunately, she passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. I always have hesistated when I hear the term cancer survivor used by others, because although my mom is no longer physically present, she is every bit a survivor. I take her with me every step of my life. She taught me to appreciate and find beauty in everyday moments, because each day is truly a privilege. I try to capture that fleeting beauty in my paintings. She would be thrilled to know that Art to Beat Cancer is helping to continue her fight!"

Background

He lives in Indianapolis, Indiana and started painting seriously after losing the functional ability to use his right arm due to a nerve disorder. He paints with his nondominant, left hand which leads to a looser application of paint and a focus on abstraction and simplicity over details.
