Item Description

See this thrilling new production of PUNK ROCK at MCC all while supporting The Starr...

PUNK ROCK
by Simon Stephens
directed by Trip Cullman

In a private school outside of Manchester, England a group of highly-articulate seventeen year-olds flirt and posture their way through the day while preparing for their A-Level mock exams. With hormones raging and minimal adult supervision, nothing can mask the underlying tension that becomes increasingly pronounced as the clock ticks towards the ultimate dismissal.

Inspired by playwright Simon Stephens¿ (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-TimeHarper Regan) own experiences as a teacher, Punk Rock is an unnerving chronicle of contemporary adolescence at the breaking point.

Through Dec 7, 2014 | New York Premiere

At the Lucille Lortel Theatre

MCC Theater was founded in 1986 as Manhattan Class Company, then a collective of young actors, writers and directors eager to take a leadership role in their own artistic development.  Initial peer-based ¿classes¿ led to showcases and eventually to the kinds of full-scale productions that have made MCC Theater one of New York¿s leading off-Broadway theater companies.  The philosophy and aesthetic on which MCC Theater was founded continues to fuel our work in three main areas of focus:

  • ANNUAL PRODUCTIONS of work, American and New York premieres that bring together exceptional artists to explore emotional and moral issues of contemporary life and inspire audiences to discussion, debate and reflection long after the curtain falls.
  • DEVELOPMENT OF NEW WORK by emerging and established playwrights in a variety of initiatives, including our PlayLabs reading series, which bring audiences into the development process. Over the years, MCC has developed more than 500 plays that have gone on to productions in the U.S. and around the world.
  • EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS that encourage New York City high school students and recent graduates to find--and use--their own unique voices through the creation and performance of original work for the stage. Each year, MCC Theater transforms the lives of more than 1,200 students through the Youth Company, a free after school program with playwriting and acting labs, and cooperative partnerships with several area high school.
