About Al Jensen

As a native of Minnesota, land of ten thousand lakes, I have always been interested in fish. I worked as a professional fishery biologist at the TVA and EPA. As a professor in the School of Natural Resources at the University of Michigan I taught and studied the dynamics of fish populations for more than 30 years. In the late 1970s I began to draw fish illustrations.

All of my drawings are original pencil on archival quality Bristol board. The fish are drawn from observations at the U of M Natural History Museum and from watching fish in aquaria. I also use photographs and study the work of other fish illustrators.
