Item Description
Zippered clutch in purple patterned cotton, lined in unbleached muslin (10.5" X 6") .
Made by a member of Southern Journeys, a worker-owned collective of Alabama Black Belt and Mississippi Delta Women who are inspired by ancestral textile, quilting and sewing traditions. The group was started by the Southern Rural Black Women's Initiative (SRBWI).
Southern Journeys website states that "Our Georgia Garden Collection celebrates the vibrant colors of West Africa embodying indigenous patterns of tribal artisans symbolizing earth providence, power, wealth, humility, strength, wisdom and learning. Varying seasonally, the collection consists of two distinct lines: African Garden and Middle Passage.
The African Garden line is crafted solely from vibrantly colored motifs, hand-dyed by our artisan sisters of the Baba Blankets Collective, Ghana and canvas lined.
The African Garden Large Zip Clutch makes organization easy and beautiful for socially conscious, fashion forward women."
