Item Description
Elementary school students are not old enough to drive, work, vote or be the boss. But that doesn't not stop them for operating banks, managing restaurants, writing checks, and voting for a mayor at JA BizTown in Auburn and Yakima, where students connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world. A lot of work goes into each visit to JA BizTown. Your $2,500 sponsorship would provide the resources to put an entire classroom through the entire JA BizTown program:
- Volunteer Training: 2 hour volunteer training session specific to each field trip at JA BizTown. Teacher and parent volunteers are trained to guide the students through the various activities they will face when they arrive at JA BizTown.
- Student Curriculum in Class: Prior to visiting JA BizTown, students engage in a comprehensive 16-hour classroom curriculum that leads students through the study of business principles, career exploration, banking procedures, business decisions and economic terms.
- JA World Visit: Dressed in business attire and well prepared for their jobs, confident 5th graders get off the bus and rush to tackle the tasks of the day at JA BizTown. After a short town meeting, the new employees try out what they have learned in the classroom for the day in their business.
- Back in the Classroom: Students reflect and discuss their experiences, the circular flow of money, goods and services. Students will balance business and personal accounts. Teacher will utilize students' experiences as a springboard for continued study of free enterprise system.
