Miles Davis with Quincy Jones & The Gil Evans Orchestra - Live At Montreux 1991
MILES DAVIS ADDICTION
Miles Davis shines brightly in the pantheon of the most emblematic figures of the Montreux Jazz Festival. With stunning performances in eight different editions, this musical genius profoundly marked the Festival’s history.
His final concert at Montreux, indeed one of his final public appearances, was in 1991. Two months after his performance, this legendary trumpet player passed on into eternity. He left behind an immense void in the world of jazz as well as an incredible musical legacy.
1991 was also a historic year for the Festival: visionary Claude Nobs saw to it that the first concerts were recorded in HD that year. Not everyone was convinced it was a good idea to introduce this new technology, but the Festival’s founder knew it was the future of music. His persuasiveness resulted in the sole HD recording of Miles Davis in concert!
1991 was also the first edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival to be co-produced by Quincy Jones. Together, Claude and Quincy were able to convince Miles Davis—never a man to live in the past—to come and play at a tribute concert for the deceased Gil Evans, a friend and jazz musician of similarly legendary stature. This was the first time Quincy Jones and Miles Davis ever shared the stage—they were accompanied by Gil Evans’ musicians.
What you hold in your hands is not merely a musical triumph, but a veritable piece of music history.
