Item Description

An intimate introduction to the birds of the North Shore:

Have you ever wanted to know more about the birds in your area, but felt overwhelmed by the prospect?  Join songbird biologist Ben Flemer to learn a little more about the birds of the North Shore.  Ben has been studying songbirds since 1999 and is currently employed by Massachusetts Audubon Society Joppa Flats Education Center.  Limited to four participants, this three hour tour will cover the basics of binocular use and the skills used to identify birds by sight and sound.  You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy the amazing diversity of bird life in and around your backyard!

This walk with focus on Winter birds: February 14th, 2015 (inclement weather date February 15th, 2015).

What are those little brown things flitting around your backyard, or the park where you walk your dog?  Which ones live here all year and which ones are visitors from farther north?  And how do they survive the cold of winter?  On the weekend of National Audubon Society’s Great Backyard Bird Count, this outing will explore winter bird life on Cape Ann.  Likely destinations will include Eastern Point area, Dogtown woods, and Halibut Point State Park.  We will meet at the Get Outside Center (186 Main Street, Gloucester) at 9am.  Binoculars provided if needed.
