Item Description

George Burns and Gracie Allen are one of the legendary comedy duos of our time. They worked together as a comedy team in vaudeville, films, radio and television and achieved great success over four decades. They met in 1922 and first performed in Vaudeville together at the Hill Street Theatre in Newark, NJ. Their first film together was a patter-and-song routine in Lambchops in 1929. They joined the Paramount roster in 1930 and made a string of one-reel comedies, and guest appearances through 1939. They had a hugely successful radio career for the next 10 years and The Burns and Allen Show was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 1994. Their next on-screen appearance was in 1950 when their "George Burns and Gracie Allen Show" topped the charts until 1958. Although Gracie retired, and George continued his comedy and guest spots, his career was resurrected at the age of 79 and he continued to work until shortly before his death at the age of 100, winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in The Sunshine Boys along the way.
