Item Description
Slava Roubonov immigrated to the USA from Russia in the early 90’s. He graduated from the prestigious Sourikov Art Institute of Painting and Sculpture as a Theater and Film set designer in Moscow. He was an apprentice under some of the best stage designers at the time of Kourileno and Rynden who were creating for the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.
During a 15 year career in the former Soviet Union, Slava designed sets, lights, and costumes for more than 80 theatrical productions in over 35 professional theaters including drama, opera, ballet, musical, and children’s theater. He was honored six times with inclusions in the Moscow Theatrical Union’s annual exhibitions of the season’s best works of Moscow’s scenic designers.
Since immigrating to the US, Slava has been employed as a freelance artist, staff artist, drafter, and designer. He has lived in Charleston since 2003.
