The Buffalo Kachina is the most powerful among all Kachinas, the one who protects and can rid evil thoughts. A Kachina is a spirit being in western Pueblo religious beliefs. Hopi Katsina- or Kachina – figures are typically carved from cottonwood root and are used to instruct young Hopi girls and new brides about the immortal beings that bring rain, control other aspects of the natural world and society, and act as messengers between humans and the spirit world.
