Item Description
The winner will receive the artwork "Killdeer" by Austine Wood Comarow and hangs in Austine Studios.
Killdeer: 15”H x 12”W
The winner will be invited to Austine Studios near Silverado and Las Vegas blvd south to see the process of Polage, which uses unusual materials that have no color until they are assembled in a special way…
About the Medium
"Killdeer" is created in a medium is called Polage, which is based on the color producing property of polarized light.
“Killdeer”, unlike most of Austine Studios' work does not require a polarizing filter or viewer to enjoy. This piece is designed to hang in a window. When lit from behind, it looks like a brilliant and very detailed form of Stained glass.
It is based on a photo taken at the Henderson Preserve, by Austine Studios art assistant and excellent wildlife photographer Vicki Rose.
About the Imagery
The imagery is related to the 75 foot long series of window panels that Austine Wood Comarow has been creating over the last 3 years for the new Forest Service Visitor’s Center being built at the entrance to Kyle Canyon.
The panels will depict hundreds of species of flora, fauna and vegetation native to the Spring Mountains. The art is being installed this winter and the visitor’s center is expected to open to the public later this Spring.
