Item Description

The Winner will receive a pair of general admission tickets to each of three Cockroach Theatre Season Productions (Stage Kiss, Mr.Burns, Native Speech).

Named "Best Theater Company" by Desert Companion, Best of the City 2014, Cockroach Theatre offers top notch performances of some of today's best plays in an intimate setting, its home--Art Square Theatre.

Winners will be treated to Sarah Ruhl's charming new comedy Stage Kiss, followed by Mr. Burns, a post -electric play by Anne Washburn--a quirky yet unsettling examination of society and pop culture in a post-electric world, and Native Speech by Eric Overmyer, a brooding, urban dissection on the dangers of media excess seen through the eyes of radio DJ--Hungry Mother.

  • February 27th, 2015 - March 15th, 2015
  • Stage Kiss by Sarah Ruhl

Art imitates life. Life imitates art. What really happens when two actors kiss onstage? The newest missive from award winning playwright Sarah Ruhl, explores the chemistry, the construction, and the sometimes ridiculous consequences of a staged kiss. Reality and artifice meld, linear time collapses, and theatre happens. Directed by Taliesin McEnaney.

  • April 24th, 2015 - May 10th, 2015
  • Mr. Burns; A Post-Electric Play, by Anne Washburn

Anne Washburn’s imaginative dark comedy begins immediately after the fall of civilization with a group of people trying to recreate the iconic “Cape Feare” episode of “The Simpsons.” Seven years later, the same clan is recounting episodes of the show professionally. Flash forward 75 years, and the story is told in an entirely different way. A paean to live theater, and to the resilience of Bart Simpson through the ages, Mr. Burns is an exploration of how the pop culture of one era might evolve into the mythology of another. Directed by Troy Heard

  • June 12th, 2015 - June 28th, 2015
  • Native Speech by Eric Overmyer

In a series of disorienting, non-linear scenes, we witness the collapse of The Hungry Mother, and underground disc jockey stuck in some future hell. Hunger Mother broadcasts freeform radio from a studio hovel. He's in love with the sound of his voice, and with the sound of words, as illustrated in his increasingly virulent, but always poetic, diatribes. He makes up news for entertainment. To his horror, his fiction becomes fact - and the world gradually spins out of his control. Directed by Levi Fackrell.
