Item Description

Step back in time when the guest was really a guest and not a reservation number ...

The Union League Club in New York City is a private social club which is conveniently located and steeped in a rich history, traditional and new elegance, classical service, and quiet sanctuary and relief from the hustle of the life.   Some reviewers have called it "one of the most elite clubs in NYC."  Those who visit walk in the steps of President Abraham Lincoln, President Theodore Roosevelt, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, President Ronald Reagan, and astronaut Neil Armstrong, among many others.

Get away for an overnight of fun and relaxation in the city.  Spend a day or two visiting New York City and use this as a place to rest and unwind.  Included is one night in one of the many comfortable rooms plus weekend continental breakfast.  If you wish to make it a two-night stay, you can do that  (see details below).  While there, check out the vast library with one of the finest collections of toy soldiers anywhere, the art gallery, and the grand public rooms with their extensive art collections and elaborate decor.  The newly renovated bar, dining rooms with their exquisite food, billiards, fitness center, and squash courts will be available to you.

So put on your "Sunday best" and enjoy the elegance that can only be experienced in this members-only club that beautifully combines the past with the present.

ABOUT THE UNION LEAGUE CLUB:

The ULC Role in History
Founded in 1863 by a group of concerned citizens to help preserve the Union, the Union League Club of New York has built, over ensuing years, a record of distinguished service to our country. Members of the Union League Club were instrumental in establishing The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1870 as well as the Sanitary Commission, a predecessor organization to the American Red Cross. It helped erect the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor and the Lincoln Monument in Union Square. Its members were instrumental in bringing down the “Boss” Tweed ring and in raising funds to outfit American soldiers in several conflicts. Theodore Roosevelt managed his early political career from the Club’s chambers.

The Clubhouse
Architect Benjamin Wystar Morris (1870-1944) designed the Clubhouse at 37th Street and Park Avenue, property that once belonged to the family of J. P. Morgan. It was completed in 1931. The Georgian exterior, with its symmetrical red brick façade, reflects familiar motifs from Park Avenue brownstone mansions, but on a grand ten-story scale. The architectural ensemble formed by the entrance foyer and grand staircase stands as one of Morris’s great successes and as a New York landmark interior. It is the Union League Club’s fourth residence. The Club contains 60 bedrooms for members and guests, a variety of meeting rooms for business and social functions, and one of the most extensive club reference and lending libraries in New York City. The Union League is also home to a distinguished art collection and an art gallery with rotating exhibits. The fitness center features all the amenities of a first class sports club, including international squash courts.
