Item Description
Vi O'Brien was a local artist schooled and certified to teach Oriental Sumi-e painting and Japanese Sogetsu (flower arranging). Her signature designs included flowers and birds with an insect painted with watercolors in the Oriental brush painting style. This painting is matted, shrinkwrapped in plastic for protection, and set loosely in a golden frame. It measures 38" tall x 18" wide without the frame. It has some signs of discoloration on the white paper, called "foxing", which is common in old paper due to changes in climatic conditions and can be repaired. Vi O'Brien received several national awards and taught an international workshop in Italy during the summer of 1986. She lived in Okinawa, Cyprus and New Delhi, India, and traveled extensively. She passed away in 2010 at age 90 and her surviving family would like to share her work for the benefit of students.
