Wildlife SOS has diligently been working for years in order to control poaching and illegal wildlife trade in India. Through reforming tribals that depend on wildlife for food, as a source of income and livelihoods; and by educating their children and empowering women folk as second wage earners, Wildlife SOS sought to establish them in alternative livelihoods and give them a better quality of life. Over 3,000 families spread through out six states and 15 villages; have received support from Wildlife SOS to become economically self-sufficient over a period of 12 years.

Embroidery has been taught to Kalandar (tribal community) women and these bags/ scarves and cushion covers are a portrayal of their hardwork and dedication to become 2nd income earners and become a voice in their community.  Their overall living standard has improved as well to protect wildlife by supporting a livelihood that does not depend on exploiting wildlife. By purchasing this unique basket, you are helping us to encourage the community to accept the women’s role in earning livelihood. This will help us to pull them out of the regressive cycle of poverty, illiteracy and exploitation.
