Item Description
This set of 10 notecards feature African wildlife photographed in the United Republic of Tanzania by wildlife photographer, Ruth Nichols.
Cards are blank inside and educational information is included on the back of each card.
Artist Statement:
Ruth Nichols is a year-round Naples resident, having moved here in 1998. She is an avid photographer, traveler, and conservationist. Originally from England, she lived previously in Boston and upstate New York. Ruth comes from an adventurous family - her paternal grandfather left England at age 17 to help build Canada's trans-continental railroad at the turn of the 20th century - after which he moved to the former British colony of Malaya where he managed a rubber plantation until shortly before the Second World War. His stories of encounters with tigers helped to formulate Ruth's lifelong love for wildlife and her specific interest in saving the tiger from extinction. For the past decade, Ruth has been researching conservation policy with a focus on protecting biodiversity.
Ruth uses either a simple 4 megapixel digital camera or a 35mm SLR Nikon camera for capturing her images. This allows her photographs to have a more ethereal look, as opposed to the documentary style of most wildlife photography.
