IMPETUOUS 2011 VINTAGE
MARTHA MCCLELLAN, WINEMAKER The 2011 Checkerboard Impetuous is a delicious Bordeaux style blend created by winemaker Martha McClellan to deliver a remarkable ready to enjoy big Napa wine. The 100% Checkerboard fruit is 60% Cabernet, 23% Merlot, and the balance equal amounts of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Sixty percent of the blend comes from barrel fermented lots. Each new French oak barrel is filled with 500 pounds of whole berries and fermented in the barrel. About forty percent is fermented in French oak casks. Impetuous is also characterized by some fruit from our newer vineyards such as Cabernet Franc. The addition of this newer vineyard fruit gives Impetuous its bright, fruit forward characteristics. The more mature vineyard fruit gives Impetuous its tannic structure and full mouth feel. The result is a wine that is immediately approachable and will complement most foods. Please enjoy this delicious Checkerboard wine.
