Item Description
One pair of tickets to the play "L'Hermione Project" at Florence Gould Hall, French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF), on Thursday, April 23.
The play (performed in English) deals with the young years of Lafayette, beginning in 1777 when the young French aristocrat has enlisted as a general officer in the US army, fighting in the war against British imperialism. Lafayette secretly bought a ship, L'Hermione, to sail across the Atlantic, leaving his pregnant wife and young daughter to fight for what he called "a splendid cause." Lafayette influenced the French government to fight for the cause of American independence; his experience in the New World also contributed to the spread of the ideals of equality and freedom in his home country.
This theatrical event is part of a celebration of the construction of a replica of the ship Hermione, which will sail to the US and is scheduled to arrive in New York Harbor in July 2015.
