Artist Kevin Irby
Kevin is a prolific painter who has exhibited around the country, largely
in San Francisco. His work is predominantly abstract interpretations of
city architecture and urbanism, usually in acrylic on large scale canvases,
as well as portraits. His recent venture into fowl (and other farm foragers)
is a reflection of his newly acquired Brooklyn/upstate dual-life. The birds
are painted in a formal portrait pose, drawing attention to the natural,
upright stance and the poised, arched back, usually against a black or
neutral color field. Hints of scaffolding and infrastructure can be mildly
detected in some of Kevin’s fowl paintings, as a quiet reminder of the
dichotomy and tension of urban life that anchors most of Kevin’s work.
