Item Description
Highlights of this super case include the 2005 Portfolio, a vintage that started with a “cool, wet winter and spring continuing with a warm July and unfolding in a cool August, September and October. Consequently, the wine is more streamlined and obviously superbly structured and balanced exhibiting abundant cool climate small berry fruit. The wine balances gracefully, the mouthfeel and texture are gentle and assertive and the complex wild berry fruit is explosive. The spiciness and sweetness of the oak weaves gently between the complexity and the length of the finish. The wine will reach its potential in 2010-2025 and could age many years after.” (winemaker). Another 2005 vintage from Bond Estate "Matriarch" that earned 90 points from Wine Spectator for “smoky currant and black and red licorice, with herb and cedar hints, give this a nice range of flavors, firming up on the finish. Best from 2010 through 2017.” And a 2006 Keever cabernet blend from a small production winery that pays attention to the details of producing ultra-premium wines.
But wait, there’s more! Two consecutive years of Heitz Cellar Napa Valley Cabernets; their 2009 and 2010 vintages both of which feature blackberry flavors with notes of cassis and silky tannins, as well as a 2010 Stags Leap that earned 92 Points from Wine & Spirits and described by the winemaker as, “Rich ruby in color, aromatically beautiful, introducing itself with alluring notes of dark, red fruit and a peppery spice. The aromatics and oak are seamlessly integrated together in this juicy wine, showcasing the ideal amount of blueberry and blackberry flavors. This vintage offers classic lushness and youthful elegance, with tannins that are rich and refined, making this wine a pleasure to enjoy now, but a promise for years of cellar age. Blend: 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec.”
2011 Timberline bottle from Howell Mountain.
Finally, five bottles representing the 2012 vintage round out this case. Included are:
A 2012 Charles Krug that yields aromas of blackberry, currants, cocoa and vanilla. This wine has a firm structure, black fruit flavors and a long, elegant finish. 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot blend.
2012 Ultraviolet a 90% Cabernet, 10% Merlot blend whose nose shows black cherry, cassis and tobacco while the palate is rich and full with red plums, bigger tannins and black cherry coming to the forefront.
2012 The Ruletasting notes from the winery describe, "strawberry, currant, vanilla and tobacco are ingrained in the initial aromas of this cabernet. The palate evolves into a lush combination of red vines, black cherry and cigar box. This wine has aging potential but you will not be disappointed if enjoyed sooner than later."
2012 Roots Run Deep Hypothesis is rich and complex, but still has incredible finesse.
2012 Robert Craig Not as famous as it’s well know Affinity cousin, but well-balanced even at this early date.
