Item Description

Expand your wine tasting super powers with this variety of white grapes and blends.

Grüner Veltliner is the most widely planted grape variety in Austria, making up about a third of all the vineyard land in the country. The 2013 Weingut Allram Grüner Veltliner is a spicy white that pairs well with many foods. According to K&L the Grüner bouquet is “floral, tending to toward musky, with hints of peppery greens, lentils, citrus and red fruit with a distinctive mineral quality. In the mouth the wine can be broad or precise, but is almost always distinguished by bracing acidity and flavors that mirror the nose. A notoriously good ager, you can drink Grüners in their youth, or let them evolve in complexity in your cellar.”

Next are two Sauvignon Blanc blends, 2011 Arietta ‘On the White Keys’ Artists' Reserve combining Sauvignon Blanc with Semillon that earned 94 Points from Steven Tanzer, and a 2013 Cantina Terlan "Terlaner Classico" Terlano that blends Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc for what Wine Enthusiast describes as, “a fragrance of white flowers and tree fruit. The juicy palate delivers white peach, yellow apple and a mineral note alongside fresh acidity. Drink now.”

A 2013 Decoy Sauvignon Blanc delivers a vibrant and aromatic expression of Sauvignon Blanc with lovely layers of mango and papaya, balanced by notes of citrus zest and orange blossom. On the palate, this wine is soft and velvety with flavors of white peach, grapefruit and melon leading to a long, crisp finish.

A 2012 Gundlach Bundschu Gerwurztraminer from the Sonoma Coast earned 90 points from Connoisseurs Guide for "Sporting very clear themes of allspice and clove in the nose with suggestions of ripe apples and a hint of spiced orange as well, this relatively mouthfilling Gewurz stays in step on the palate with ample, nicely filled flavors.”

Sample two German Rieslings with a 2013 Dr. H. Thanisch Bernkasteler Doctor Riesling Spatlese and a 2009 Dr. Fischer Ockfener Bockstein Riesling Kabinett. The latter earned 89 points from Wine Enthusiast.
