Item Description
Bid on this lot to sample pinots from France, Oregon’s Willamette Valley and California’s Sonoma and Central Coasts.
Representing Oregon are a 2012 Domaine Drouhin Dundee Hills, one of the best Oregon 2012 pinots according to the SF Chronicle. Also a 2011 Samuel Robert Winery described in winery’s tasting notes as, “Bright garnet in color with hints of amethyst. Offering aromas of black cherry, cranberry, raspberry, spice, and new leather. Drink through 2020.” Finally a 2012 bottle from La Crema’s Willamette Valley vineyard that earned 90 points from Wine Spectator for being "light and silky, with a nose of raspberry and cherry, hinting at green peppercorn on the deftly taut finish. Drink now through 2019."
From the Sonoma Coast are three bottles of 2012 La Crema plus a 2011 Gundlach Bundschu Estate Vineyard bottle that earned 89 points from Wine Spectator. And a 2012 Les Voleurs with an earthy nose backed by black cherry and wild berries that pairs well with mushrooms, earthy vegetables, duck or lamb.
Representing the Central Coast is another 2012 La Crema from the winery’s Monterey vineyard that Wine Spectator awarded 88 points and called, “a balanced style, with a mix of ripe berry, plum and light creamy oak. The tannins are laced with crushed rock and cedar details. Drink now through 2020." Also a 2011 Dierberg Drum Canyon with aromatics of cedary spice and a reduction of cherry and mushrooms brings forth fruity and earthy qualities at once. And a 2009 Belle Glos Las Alturas that earned 92 points from Wine Spectator and described as, "Bold, rich and layered, with dense dark berry fruit that shows touches of spice, wild berry and blackberry and attractive floral scents. Full-bodied, this expands on the finish, where the flavors fan out. Best from 2012 through 2020."
And last but not least a 2013 Domaine Girard from Languedoc-Roussillon, France. K&L explains, “comes from cool climate vineyard sites located just a stone's throw from the Pyrenees. Light and delicate are definitely appropriate adjectives to describe this wine; primary fruit and rose nuances akin to a Willamette County pinot matched by the structure a more racy pinot noir from Burgundy. Looking for a light red to pair with fish or Asian inspired dishes? Well look no further.”
