Item Description
Time to fire up the backyard barbeque before the fog rolls in. Be a BBQ HERO by having the perfect wine parings on hand.
This lot includes a 2011 Fontanella Petit Syrah from Napa and a 2012 Catena Malbec that earned 91 points from Wine Enthusiast which said, "This is quintessential Argentine Malbec. Aromas of roasted black fruits and smoke transition to a toasty, oaky palate with a spectrum of flavors ranging from herbal to jammy berry. In between are notes of tobacco, spice and molasses."
Next a 2012 Andrew Murray Vineyards Terra Bella Vineyard Grenache that comes exclusively from the west side of the Paso Robles appellation. The winemaker says, “The aromas and flavors are full bodied and lingering with lots of ripe strawberries, kirsch, and floral notes mixed with some great spicy notes of pepper and vanilla from the oak aging. The wine has a very rich, full mouth-feel, with some youthful tannins that are just starting to subside to reveal a lush, round red!”
SF Chronicle's 2013 Winemakers of the Year, Arnot – Roberts, are represented with their 2013 North Coast Trousseau. Vintage Wine Merchant's website explains,” Crushed flowers, subtle hints of earthiness, dried flowers and savory herbs waft from the glass. A weightless, gracious wine impresses for its overall balance and pure class. This superb, delicious red should be at its best at the dinner table. Trosseau, a variety originally from the Jura, is rarely seen in California.”
Trollinger, another lesser-known grape produced the delicious 2013 Weingut Knauss from Württemberg, Germany. Domaine LA website says it best, “The Knauss Trollinger is a liter-sized delight. The first thing you will notice is the dark pink-ish color that places this wine somewhere between a red and a rosé. This wine is fruity, rocky and refreshing. Chill down a bottle and bring it to your friend’s backyard barbeque.”
Also included in your BBQ box are 3 California Red Blends. The winemaker describes the non-vintage Fess Parker "Frontier Red" Lot 91 Red Blend from Santa Barbara as, “Dark fruit aromas of black cherry, blackberry and black raspberry along with pepper jump from the glass at first exposure. Added notes of sage, smoke, leather and vanilla complete this incredible bouquet. Cranberry, black cherry and red currant combine with smoke and dark chocolate flavors that accentuate the sweet midpalate and help produce a soft, velvety finish. Enjoy Frontier Red with “everyday” cuisine, backyard BBQ’s or simply on its own.” A 2013 Donkey and Goat Five Thirteen Red Blend from El Dorado is 40% Grenache, 18% Syrah, 18% Mourvèdre, 14%Cinsault and 10% Counoise. The third blend is 2014 Sean Thackrey "Pleiades XXIII" Old Vine Red Blend which earned 92 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar. Sangiovese, Viognier, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel are just a few of the varieties in this blend. IWC says, “Bright, pale red. Almost Pinot-like perfume to the aromas of red berries, minerals, gingerbread cookie and rose petal. Sweet and round but exhilaratingly tangy too, offering enticing perfume to the flavors of cranberry, raspberry, blood orange and spicecake. Lovely balance and finesse here; complex in a subtle way.”
Last but not least a bottle of 2000 Renaissance Cabernet Sauvignon from the Sierra Foothills. Vintage is not a misprint. Wine was released late at age 8. The winemaker notes, “Medium to full bodied, youthful with a solid tannic structure, perfectly balanced by its lively acidity and its mouth-coating ripeness. Ripe black cherry & plums, blackberry espresso, tobacco and black pepper.”
