Artist: Panya Sos
All proceeds from the sale of this painting will be MATCHED, thereby doubling your donation to cancer research at Children's Research Institute in Dallas
Panya is a 15 year old girl from a village in the Battambang Province of Cambodia. Panya was diagnosed with leukemia in August 2013 and she has been treated by the top childhood oncologist in Thailand. Because she is not Thai and cannot access free medical care or insurance, her 3-year chemotherapy treatment has been paid for by donations. She is currently cancer-free but must continue chemo for another 16 months.
Many of her relatives were genocide victims during the Khmer Rouge era. She and her mother have lived with a thai family for more than 8 years, and they are undocumented. Her mother has worked as a housekeeper. Panya attended Thai private school for five years and learned the Thai language. She and a friend were taken out of the school in 2011 because of political unrest, and they have been homeschooled since.
Panya learned drawing through some tutoring by artists as well as online classes, but is mostly self-taught. She wants to pursue higher education in the arts in the States or UK.
