Item Description
Appreciating Indian Classical Rhythms for your child and 9 friends; 90 minutes.
Sanvi’s dad (blue room), Chintan Vaishnav, invites you to join him for an interactive introduction to appreciating Indian Classical Rhythms. This class will expose you to rhythms that are simple and universal to complex and unique to Indian classical music. Indian music weaves in rhythms in a highly structured yet improvisational classical form, utilizing both the sound but more importantly the silence.
In this introduction, we will listen to some pieces, and sing rhythms along. Chintan will bring Tabla, the talking drums, and play some rhythms. You are welcome to bring along a small hand drum (djembe, bongo etc.) if you’d like, for a drum circle we can fade into.
Chintan holds a bachelors degree in Indian Classical Drumming, and currently teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Class will be held at CMS and will be scheduled on a mutually agreed upon date in May.
