Item Description
The San Jose Area Writing Project's Writing Workshop
For students entering grades 4-6. August 3-7, 2015 from 9:00-2:30, Monday - Friday at San Jose State University
In these workshops, teachers share mentor texts, model craft lessons, and confer with writers. Students set goals for their writing and compile portfolios. Workshops may make use of the library, student union, and exhibits on campus to spark imagination. A favorite outdoor writing spot, the SJSU Sweeney Hall courtyard, is now beautifully remodeled and an ideal place for writers to congregate and work. Writers enjoy company with peers who like literature and creative ideas.
Students choose three workshops from various genres as part of the registration process, allowing them the opportunity to work with credentialed, experienced writing teachers. Workshops include creative nonfiction, narrative, argumentative, literary essay, and poetry. Student choice and voice is encouraged. Each daily workshop is 75 minutes, with breaks, and a 45-minute lunch is scheduled around the three workshops.
Item Special Note
For Students entering grade 4-6. Workshop offered August 3-7, 2015. Register by June 30, 2015.
