Artist Statement:

I am a Dallas artist, born in Albuquerque New Mexico but raised in Texas. I have been making art from a very young age. I hadn't explored my talents with art until I was diagnosed with Leukemia.

In the process of me becoming ill I lost some basic hand mobility and could barely lift a pencil to write my name so painting and drawing in this condition at first seemed impossible. I developed patience through many outlets, most importantly, my art.

Art had allowed me to really grasp the concept of being patient and confiding that I would regain my strength. Because of my persistent nature I consistently practiced basic hand movements and “exercised” my hand. Finally I was able to function in a decent and controllable manner in which I could successfully paint or draw something with somewhat ease.

Art was a kind of savior to my health; I see it as a self art-therapy. I rebuilt myself through the practice of something I love to do. This is why art has become such an interest in my life and why I have decided to pursue it as a career. I am currently at Richland Community College getting an Associates in Art to continue on to a university to major in Illustration and Photography. â?®
