This original watercolor is a magnificent close up of a Sea Star. These marine invertebrates are a keystone species that play a critical role in maintaining the structure and biodiversity of their ecological communities. It was painted by Monteverde, Costa Rica resident Sarah Dowell. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Sarah came to live in Monteverde in 1971. She is a self-taught artist who has been painting for nearly 40 years. Most of her pieces are watercolors and many depict local wildlife. Her gallery is located in her unique home which is a 15 minute walk through a beautiful woodland area in Monteverde. Visitors are welcome any time!
