Item Special Note

Lucky Bird Earrings Reliquaries; containers for holy relics inspired these delicate earrings. As the mother of two young children, I am enamored of every lock of hair clipped from my daughters heads, and little bits of paper on which they scrawl notes to me. I wanted to create jewelry to hold these precious artifacts close to my heart; to liberate them from the boxes where they were accumulating. Because 19th century art and design have always inspired my imagination, these earrings are a little bit gothic, a little bit Victorian, with their ovoid shape and black enameled surface. The earrings are fabricated from sterling silver that has been highly polished, and depicts enigmatic illustrations of birds in flight, each with a ribbon in its beak. The lightly oxidized, hand-hammered back of each oval features an opening; with tweezers, you may insert a token of significance: a lock of hair, a note, or a quotation rolled into a tiny scroll. It is intended to capture mementos you wish to hold near and dear; wear it often, and in great health and happiness!
