Item Description
Beautiful framed watercolor diptych of the Square du Temple in Paris by Waring alum and parent Nicole Hupin-Otis. Painted on location, this scene depicts the historically rich square designed by Baron Haussmann in 1865 during Napoleon's reign. Located just a short walk in the marais from the MIJE youth hostel that our Waring students know well, the square designates the spot once occupied by a 'donjon' prison. Here, Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, and their children were locked up before being sent to the guillotine in 1793. Today, no remnants of the donjon remain, but the bucolic green space is enjoyed by Parisians and tourists alike.
Dimensions: 13"x 26" framed.
