Item Description
This experience for two people is an escorted tour of the UN Headquarters in New York with a staff member from the UN's Department of Peacekeeping Operations. You will see the sights covered on the official tour such as meeting chambers and gifts to the UN from Member States, but unlike the regular tour...
- If the General Assembly is not in session, you will be able to walk into the chamber and see how the seating order is organized and how countries "raise their hands" to speak
- You can have your photograph taken on the podium of the General Assembly from where world leaders present their priorities annually to the rest of the world
- You will visit the informal locations around the building where the real negotiations are done...over drinks, in the rose garden, or on a quiet sofa -- and get an off-the-record explanation from a staff member about what the negotiations are like
- You will get to visit the surreal underground world of the UN, with basements far underground full of unexpected things
- You will also get to dine like a delegate which includes a lunch reservation for the daily international buffet at the Delegate's dining room. The dining room has a panoramic view of the East River.
- Depending on what is happening that day, you might get to visit the 24/7 "situation centre" where information comes in on crises worldwide and where first line responses are planned
- You can send a letter from the UN post office with your own photograph on the stamp!
Item Special Note
- This tour will be during weekdays only
- Exact date to be agreed with your guide
- Certain dates are blocked out e.g. the UN has its own holidays during which the building is closed; many of these are not the same as U.S. holidays
- Redeem by April 2016
