Item Description

Unique 100% Pinot Noir from the Wine Domain of the Hospices de Beaune.

This cuvee is named after the first chaplain of the Hospice de la Charité.

In a context of misery and famine, Nicolas Rolin, the Chancellor of the Duke of Burgundy, and his spouse, Guigone de Salins, founded the Hôtel-Dieu in Beaune in 1443, to come to the aid of the “sick and needy”. It is a veritable architectural masterpiece of world renown, famous for its striking interior courtyard (Cour d’Honneur), the splendor of its roofs with their multi-color varnished tiles and all its treasures.

In Burgundy, “no asset being more precious than vines”, it was thus that the Domaine des Hospices de Beaune was constructed, a reflection of the multitude of the greatest terroirs of Burgundy and of its generosity.

It perpetuates and prolongs the notion of charity by offering, in turn, its wines of high quality. grands crus de Bourgogne. Even more so today than in the past, the management of the Domain is driven by the essential aim of maintaining the quality that has made the reputation of the wines of the Hospices.

Important to the tradition of the Hospices de Beaune is the yearly wine sale on the third Sunday of November. This fixed date has become an annual rendezvous for wine professionals.

The grapes for this wine came from Monthelie a parcel with the following characteristics:

Vines : Les Duresses 0.88 ha

The Lebelin family has a long history in Beaune. Numerous members are counted among the benefactors of the Hospices. Etienne Lebelin was the first chaplain of the Hospice de la Charité and seven members of the family, starting in 1531, became Mayors of Beaune.

In 1704, while the town was going through a somber period marked by freezing weather, bad harvests, famines and the wars at the end of Louis XIV’s reign, Jean-Jacques and Marguerite Lebelin donated the amount of 10,000 Livres to the Hospices, a considerable sum for that time.

Half of the vines constituting this Cuvee were planted in 1950, the rest dating from 1951 to 1976.
