Camp Caribou is an ideal summer camp program for boys located in Winslow, Maine. Our sleep away camp has been in our family for years and is a premier sports camp for boys in Maine. Positioned on our 200 acre camp in Maine, our traditional program for boys has been developed through three generations of the Lerman family. There is no better place to spend a summer on a lake in Maine; we are lucky enough to have a mile and a half of Lake Front on our 200 acre peninsula and are a mile in off the main road. Our unique overnight summer camp program offers boys specialized sports instruction from professional staff, a warm spirited environment and fantastic facilities for both land and water sports. Camp Caribou is a summer camp program where boys can learn not only about themselves, but about the world around them. Are you looking for an unforgettable summer camp experience for your son? Were getting excited for another wonderful summer together in Maine!

Our program is designed to offer a wealth of diverse activities and programs. Our boys rotate through 15 instructional periods every week with their bunk. Through these instructional periods, we introduce them to the variety of team, individual, aquatic, ropes and wilderness activities that we offer. Our hope is that we will uncover new interest areas by getting them excited about something that they never knew they enjoyed during these one hour instructional periods. When their lamp is lit in a specific activity, we allow them to elect that activity on the very same day, in the afternoon. The boys elect 15 periods every week, 3 each day in the afternoons, we call them "electives" and they change daily. Knowing boys as well as we do, and having Caribou in our family since 1968, we find that boys learn the best when they are self motivated.

The staff encourages them to try their specialty area, they mentor them, they get them excited about learning new skills and then the process of competency begins. When boys become competent at something, they love the activity even more and it builds their confidence. The fact that they will also be getting recognition from their peers motivates them as well. We find that at Caribou we can make everyone a star in their own mind. Many times parents ask, Who is the typical Caribou kid? Our answer is always that we attract the "whats next?" kids; kids that love to learn, love to be active, are willing to try new things, and respond very well to positive reinforcement.

Caribou boys are a fun-loving, warm, and welcoming group of boys. We have a cross-section of athletic abilities at our summer camp, very similar to a school classroom. We have gifted athletes, we have boys who love to play the game and are developing daily, and we have boys who are just learning and beginning to develop their new skills. The only pre-requisite is that theyre interested in learning and love to play.

Camp Caribou boys are also known for their excellent sportsmanship, we win with class and we lose with class. In all competitions, no matter what the outcome, our Caribou boys wear the white hats.

Bill Lerman, owner of Camp Caribou, is a former Driscoll student!
