Item Description
The artist Henry Miller is one of the 20th century's most influential writers.
He turned to painting when he could no longer write. Painting refreshed and restored him and enabled him to forget that he was unable to write. Born in Brooklyn in 1891, Miller became famous in 1930's for the brilliant novels he wrote about his controversial lifestyle in Paris. In 1944 he moved to California where he began exhibiting his watercolors to pay his bills.
"Clown" was created in 1973 and was a favorite subject of Miller. He explained: "The clown appeals to me deeply, though I did not always know it, precisely because he is separated from the world by laughter".
Kenwood Vineyards features "Clown" in the "Artist Series".
Kenwood Vineyards was established in 1970 in the former Pagani Brothers Winery, a historic cellar dating back to 1906. Thoroughly refurbished and modernized, the facility now boasts more than 125 stainless steel fermenting tanks and large oak uprights, and 17,000 small French and American oak barrels, all devoted to Kenwood Vineyards’ “small lot” style of winemaking.
A 3L Wine bottle than can be used as decoration or as piggy bank.
