J.Rickards 2011 1908 Brignole Vineyard Old Vine Zinfandel (Alexander Valley)

A classic, old-style field blend best identified as Zinfandel, this heady red opens with perfumed baking spice and a tinge of black licorice. Soft, integrated tannins make it juicy and approachable in red and black berry, with robust but not distracting oaky tones. (4/1/2015) 90 WE

2012 La Storia by Trentadue Zinfandel, Estate Bottled, Alexander Valley, Sonoma County

The wine is bright and lively with concentrated Zini aromas; predominately dark cherry, blueberry, plum with some typical raisin. The fine oak barrel aging brings in subtle aromas of vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon and slight toast and smokiness. The mouth feel is solid with medium body and very soft, elegant tannins that accentuate the wines long and juicy finish. Zinfandels, when balanced, are very versatile food pairing wines with broad range; this wine will satisfy your palate with many of your favorite dishes. This wine is delicious now but with some patience and proper aging, will improve over the next 2-5 years.
