2011 McCay Cellars Trulux Zinfandel, Lodi, California

This is a monster Zin, and a very good one. It has an inky black color tinged with red, strong dried-fruit flavors like fig, prune and dried cherry. Along with a smoky, roasted quality on the palate, it has sandy tannins with lots of grip. Powerful and almost sweet. (2/1/2015) 89 $32

2012 McCay Cellars Trulux Zinfandel, Trulux Vineyard, Mokelumne River, Lodi

One of a limited release set of Zinfandels fermented with native yeast and aged in neutral barrels. Its deep garnet colored, nearly black to the rim. Barrel-aged complexity shows in the lightly spicy aromas like cinnamon and toast, along with faintly herbal but largely plummy aromas and flavors. Its full-bodied, smooth and rounded. Contention (definition; the act or an instance of striving in controversy or debate, an assertion put forward in argument) is 2010 McCay Cellars Contention Zinfandel, Lodi, California 100% Zinfandel from this beautiful 80 year old head trained vineyard grown by Robert Lauchland. This vineyard is found on the Westside of the Lodi AVA. This Zinfandel is a perfect representation of the terrior of the Vineyard. Sultry and complex with layer after layer are just the start of the beautiful wine. Earth, Dust and Mineral are the major components of this unique Zinfandel.
