2011 Mike And Molly Hendry Zinfandel, R.W Moore Vineyard, Napa Valley
Black fruit and earthy spice greet the nose topped with an almost Middle Eastern fenugreek and green anise seed note. Nice grapey base note, this is smooth and supple in the mouth, showing good acidity and ripe tannins. This is fairly restrained, if large-scaled, with nice pure fruit that lacks a touch of intensity. The finish is a bit short and a bit simple, but overall this shows a lovely texture. 87 points Snooth
2011 Hendry, Hendry Block 28, Napa Valley
Plenty of jam and spice on the nose. Juicy, deep berry, spice and pepper. Delicious, velvety palate opens with time and air. Block 28's hallmark depth, complexity and firm tannic backbone make it a versatile pairing partner for grilled, braised and barbecued meats, like osso bucco, lamb chops or short ribs. One of George's favorites is oven-roasted lamb shanks with herbs de Provence, tomato and garlic.
2012 Hendry, Hendry Block 7 & 22, Napa Valley
Sweet ripe berries and cherries flirting with spice and oak in the initial aromas. Blueberry, tangy sour cherry and bittersweet chocolate on the palate. Moderate tannins and a nice, tangy acidic lift make this balanced wine our go-to with tomato-based sauces, or hearty roasts and braises that include a bit of tomato paste. Argentinian or Texas-style dry-rub barbecue would also be great choices!
