Item Description

2 bottles of Leo Steen Chenin Blanc from Califonia, one from Saini Vineyards in Dry Creek Valley in northern California (2013) and one from Jurassic Park Vineyard in Santa Ynez Valley outside of Santa Barbara (2011). Jurassic Park Vineyard was planted back in 1982, which makes it one of the oldest Chenin Blanc vineyards on the Central Coast.

Both wines are made by the Danish winemaker Leo Steen Hansen who back in 1999 moved to California to make wine, after having worked most of his life in the restaurant business raising to Chef Sommelier at Kong Hans in Copenhagen. Leo began in 2002 making wine at Stuhlmuller in Sonoma and quickly advanced to become the head winemaker, Stuhlmuller has received much accolades during Leo’s time as winemaker most recently with 94+ Robert Parker score awarded to his Cabernet Sauvignon.

Aside from his day job at Stuhlmuller, Leo has also made cool climate style wines under his own label Leo Steen since 2004, primarily focused on Chenin Blanc, Syrah and Rhone blends. Under the Leo Steen brand, Leo has on several occasions been covered in NY Times as best wine under $20 and top wines for Thanksgiving. Most recently Leo has also been written up in SF Chronicle as “Winemakers to Watch 2015”.
